New APP for TIPS
Since 1992, Winnebago Crime Stoppers has been working with communities to provide law enforcement with information needed to solve crimes. Beginning October 30th, anonymous tipsters in Winnebago County can use a new app for their smartphone or tablet to provide tips.
Winnebago Crime Stoppers will implement an app called P3. P3 stands for Public, Police and Private Sector – the three key elements of the Crime Stoppers network. The free app can be downloaded through the App Store for iPhone products or Google Play for Android users, using the search title of “P3 Tips.” With this app, tipsters will have the option of providing a new tip, updating an existing tip or simply calling the hotline with the touch of a screen. It will allow for more dialogue between Crime Stoppers staff and tipsters, and offers the ability to upload video, photos, screen shots and audio files.
Users of the P3 app will also be able to connect with Crime Stoppers networks outside of Winnebago County, reporting suspicious activity wherever they are.
With the new app, Crime Stoppers will discontinue its use of tips by texting. Tipsters will still have the traditional option of calling the hotline at 920-231-8477 or submitting a tip online at www.winnebagocrimestoppers.com.
As always, tipsters will always remain anonymous. Tipsters using the P3 app will choose their own personal passcode, known only by that person. When a new tip is submitted, a tip ID number will be generated for follow-up use or for adding to their tip.
Rewards for successful tips will remain in place with Winnebago Crime Stoppers. Tips that lead to an arrest will still be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
