What is Winnebago CountyWide Crime Stoppers?
Winnebago CountyWide Crime Stoppers was formed in November 1991 and incorporated on February 4, 1992. During its first year it was associated with the area MEG unit and the Oshkosh Police Department.
Winnebago CountyWide Crime Stoppers is a cooperative effort between local law enforcement agencies, the business community, news media and the public to provide law enforcement with information they need to solve crimes. Winnebago CountyWide Crime Stoppers encourages people to provide tips that can be vital in the successful solution of a crime by offering cash rewards for tips leading to the arrest of a suspect(s), while always guaranteeing the anonymity of the tipster.
Why Do We Need Winnebago CountyWide Crime Stoppers?
Winnebago CountyWide Crime Stoppers is based on the principal that “someone other than the criminal has information that may solve the crime” and was created to combat the major problems faced by law enforcement in generating that information; the reluctance of people to identify themselves and get directly involved.
How Does It Work?
When a person contacts Winnebago CountyWide Crime Stoppers through its anonymous tip line, website or text line and the information provided leads to an arrest, they become eligible for a CASH reward, of up to $1,000.00. The 24/7 Crime Stoppers reporting systems maintain the caller’s anonymity by assigning a special code number to each tipster that is used in all subsequent contacts and any CASH reward that may be paid.
The vital link between the Winnebago CountyWide Crime Stoppers and the community at large are the Crime Prevention Officers. These officers continually monitor the changes and challenges facing our community. They keep Crime Stoppers current on events so Crime Stoppers can focus on the current issues. The Crime Prevention Officers working directly with Crime Stoppers are:
- Kate Mann, Oshkosh Police Department
- Pete Ehlert, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department
- John Wallschlager (Civilian), City of Menasha Police Department
- Stuart Zuehls, City of Neenah Police Department
